With the theme Beyond the Numbers: Navigating a Data-Informed Philippine Ecosystem, NYC 17 aims to highlight the role of data in measuring, evaluating, and guiding economic policies and other societal impacts. As the world becomes more interconnected and as societies turn towards data science to achieve the best outcomes, economies have to adapt to this trend and begin to navigate the potential and power that big data can bring. This year’s NYC seeks to explore the flow of information and the advancement of data as forerunners for a well-functioning economy by sparking critical discussions about its various uses, interpretations, and the ethical dilemmas that we face in the process. The theme will likewise initiate discourse on topics such as effective public information dissemination, transparency and accountability, and the influence of the growing online community. NYC’s goal is to train the youth to become conscientious and informed catalysts for change, who will utilize data to improve the nation’s future quality of life.
Through a fully digital experience, this year’s edition will feature new twists and innovations that will change the way we reach out to the youth in the age of information. The transition to the online platforms consequently propels a more inclusive Congress as participation for this year will be free of charge.
With the main goal of empowering the youth amidst the changes and the challenges that the country is facing, NYC would bring out unity in diversity of its participants by creating a bridge within the gaps of different parts of the country through regional studies and economics. NYC 17 continues its legacy in delivering relevant and comprehensive discussion by centering on maintaining our country's unique national identity while participating in a rapidly developing global community, wherein students will have the opportunity to learn from their fellow delegates about our history, economic involvement, and standing with our Southeast Asian neighbours. The 17th National Youth Congress will be held on November 14-15, 2020 (Saturday - Sunday) online, primarily via Zoom.
